What are DTF transfers?
A DTF transfer is a full-color design printed onto a clear film, coated with adhesive powder, and cured so it is ready to apply with a heat press. You press it onto the garment, let it cool, and peel the film off. The design stays behind. DTF stands for direct-to-film, and it is what replaced vinyl and screen printing for most small apparel shops.
Unlike vinyl, there is no weeding and no color limit, so a photograph and a one-color logo cost the same to print. Unlike screen printing, there are no screens to set up, which is why a single shirt costs the same per square inch as a hundred. Every transfer we ship is printed on demand in Casa Grande, Arizona, and tested to hold color past 50 washes.

How much do DTF transfers cost?
Custom DTF transfers are priced by the square inch on a 22 inch wide sheet, and the rate drops as the sheet gets longer. There are no setup fees, no color charges, and no order minimums at any tier.

What fabrics do DTF transfers work on?
Cotton, polyester, cotton and poly blends, canvas, tri-blends, fleece, and most performance wear. DTF works on 100 percent polyester, which is where sublimation and vinyl often struggle, and it works on dark garments without a separate white underbase step on your end because the white ink is already printed into the transfer.
Press settings
- Cotton and blends: 300°F (149°C) for 10 to 15 seconds, medium to heavy pressure
- 100 percent polyester: 285°F (140°C) for 10 seconds, medium to heavy pressure
- Peel: cold peel only. Let the garment cool to the touch, then pull the film off in one smooth motion
- Second press: 10 seconds with a teflon sheet on top, which seats the edges and is the step most people skip

How long do DTF transfers last?
Pressed correctly, ours hold color and adhesion past 50 wash cycles. Wash inside out in cold water and tumble dry low, and skip fabric softener. Most failures people blame on the transfer are actually pressure or a missed second press, which is covered in why DTF prints peel and how to prevent it.

Common DTF transfer questions
How long does it take to get custom DTF transfers?
Orders ship within 72 hours, and most leave within 24. Everything is printed in house in Casa Grande, Arizona, so nothing waits on an outside printer. Arizona customers can also pick up locally instead of paying shipping.
Is there a minimum order?
No. One transfer is a real order, and it costs the same per square inch as a hundred. There are no setup fees and no per-color charges either.
What size are your DTF transfer sheets?
Custom sheets are 22 inches wide and any length from 5 to 150 inches. You pick the length, fill it with as many designs as fit, and pay for the area. Premade designs come pre-sized, with the dimensions listed on each design.
Do DTF transfers work on 100 percent polyester?
Yes. Press polyester at 285°F for 10 seconds instead of the 300°F used for cotton, since the lower temperature avoids scorching and dye migration. Cold peel either way, then a 10 second second press with a teflon sheet.
Do I need a heat press, or will an iron work?
A heat press is strongly recommended, because DTF needs even pressure at a held temperature and an iron gives you neither. Small home presses work fine. If an iron is all you have, expect edges to lift sooner.
How many washes do DTF transfers survive?
Past 50 wash cycles when pressed correctly. Wash inside out in cold water, tumble dry low, and skip fabric softener. Cracking and peeling almost always trace back to too little pressure or a skipped second press rather than the wash.
Can I sell shirts made with your transfers?
Yes, that is what most of our customers do. Small apparel shops, market vendors, and school and team fundraisers press our transfers onto finished garments and sell them. There are wholesale rates for volume and reseller benefits including tax-exempt ordering with a valid resale certificate.
What file should I upload for a custom transfer?
A PNG with a transparent background at 300 DPI at final print size is ideal. Run it through the artwork quality checker first and it will tell you if the resolution is too low before you pay for it.
